CANDIES is an acronym for Child Adolescent Neuro-Developmental Interventional Educational Series.
On October 17, 2009, the Brokenshire Child And Adolescent Neuro-Developmental Center – Pediatrics Department of Brokenshire Memorial Hospital conducted CANDIES Lecture 3 with the theme: “New Developments in CANDEV: Genetics, Learning Disabilities and Behavior Management”. It is the third lecture since the establishment of the Center about ten years ago, the CANDEV housed then at the present Pedia Wing of the hospital until the inauguration in 2006 of a new two-storey edifice which is now the home of CANDEV.
The event drew a crowd of about 200 participants from the different regions in Mindanao composed of health professionals, teachers, school heads, parents, and other persons interested or involved in neuro-developmental concerns. Dr. Demosthenes Albay, Chairperson of the Pediatrics Department and Dr. Ferriza Maria Isaguirre, CANDEV Director discussed the beginnings and rationale as well as the overview of the lecture series. Guest speakers included Dr. Conchita Abarquez – Geneticist and the only one in Mindanao today with this subspecialty, Mairis Florez – Occupational Therapist, Brendon Garino – Reading Specialist, and Dr. Gilda Agbisit – Pediatric Neurologist. An hour of Open Forum titled “Meet the Experts” joined in by all members of the CANDEV Team concluded the program wherein all kinds of questions related to child and adolescent neuro-development were competently and graciously responded to by the experts. |
